In this lesson plan, students are introduced to the definition and characteristics of a dystopian work by watching video clips from The Matrix and other dystopian films. Brave New World shares a vision of scientific advancements and combines them into a dystopian society, challenged by the story’s protagonist. Set mainly in a futuristic World State whose citizens are environmentally engineered into an intelligence-based social hierarchy. In his most famous novel Brave New World (1932), Huxley presented his vision of dystopia. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature seven times and was elected Companion of Literature by the Royal Society of Literature in 1962. He wrote close to fifty books-both novels and non-fiction works-as well as wide-ranging essays, narratives, and poems. Huxley was an English writer and philosopher. Aldous Huxley was born on this day in 1894 in Godalming, Surrey, England.
